Under-18 events in booze ads clampdown
ALCOHOLIC drinks firms will now be banned from sponsoring events with a "particular appeal" to under-18s, under new guidelines.
But events such as the T in the Park music festival and big sporting occasions such as Old Firm clashes will not be affected, providing that most of those attending are over 18.
The guidelines state that drinks sponsors should make "all reasonable effort" to anticipate the make-up of the audience at particular events and 75% of the audience must be over 18 to allow drinks sponsorship.
The guidelines were drawn up by the Scottish Government and the drinks industry, and replace existing UK guidelines.
Public health minister Shona Robison welcomed the guidelines, adding: "We have proposed radical measures which we believe will help rebalance Scotland's relationship with alcohol and defuse the health timebomb we are storing up for the future."
